A meaningful ceremony, without legal registration
Visitors cannot legally register a marriage in the Maldives, regardless of religion, so every ceremony offered to visitors here is symbolic — at resorts and on local islands alike. Most couples arrange the legal registration at home, usually in a short appointment at a registry office, and celebrate with us. The certificate you receive is a keepsake to take home, not a legal document.

Is the ceremony legally binding?
No. The Maldives government states that visitors cannot legally register a marriage in the country, regardless of religion. Our ceremony and certificate are symbolic. Arrange any legal registration in an eligible jurisdiction, and celebrate here on Thoddoo.
The day itself

What happens if it rains?
We look for a suitable dry period on the same day and agree a plan with you by late morning. If conditions prevent the ceremony that day, we aim to reschedule it during your stay at no additional ceremony charge.
When is the best time of year?
January to March is usually the driest period. December and April are transitional months and are often very good. From roughly mid-May to November showers are more likely, though ceremonies still go ahead. Weather varies day to day, so allow some flexibility in your itinerary.
What should we wear?
Choose whatever feels right for your ceremony and is comfortable on sand. Away from the two designated bikini beaches, please dress respectfully in the village, with shoulders and knees covered.
Is alcohol available?
No, alcohol is not sold anywhere on Thoddoo. If that is an important part of your trip, ask us about day trips to nearby resorts.
How many guests can come?
Guests are welcome at no additional charge in every package, up to 20 people in total. Beyond that the beach stops feeling private, so we do not take larger groups. Tell us your expected number so we can prepare the setup and coordinate the day.
Getting here
Malé to Thoddoo, and how long it takes.
How do we get to Thoddoo?
The usual route is a shared speedboat from Malé or the airport area, taking about 75 to 90 minutes depending on conditions. We can arrange seats with your booking and confirm current departure times before you travel. The public ferry costs less but runs only twice a week and takes over seven hours.

Are the prices really what we pay?
Yes. Ceremony and add-on prices on this site include 17% tourism GST, shown separately in each breakdown. No service charge is added at the end. Accommodation, transfers and Green Tax are separate unless your written quotation includes them.
